Niger: Tuareg Bianu Festival in Agadez

1 DAY. Arrival in Niamey (flight is operated by Turkish Airlines via Istanbul). Hotel accommodation.

2 DAY. Obtaining a Niger visa. Transfer through the towns of Dosso and Dogonduchy to Tahoua. Overnight at the hotel.

3 DAY. Drive by jeeps through the areas inhabited by the Hausa and Fulbe peoples to Agadez. Accommodation at the hotel, overnight.

4-6 DAYS. We spend these days at the BIUNU festival. At this time, hundreds of Tuareg gather in the square near the Sultan's palace in Agadez and hold “military parades”, accompanied by Tuareg music and dances. Agadez itself is an ancient city (founded in the 15th century), the main attraction, in addition to the Sultan's palace, is the so-called "Miller's House" and the Great Mosque made of banks (a mixture of clay, stones and straw), the minaret of which you can climb. The favorable location of the city (on important trade routes) contributed to its rapid development. Over time, Agadez becomes the main city of the Tuareg. In 1449 the city became the administrative center of the Sultanate. Around 1500, the city was conquered by the Songhai Empire. At that time, the population of the city was already about 30 thousand people, and the city was one of the key points at the crossroads of the trade routes of medieval Africa. The Moroccan invasion caused significant damage to the city. So, after him, the population of the city was reduced by three times. Around 1900, the city was occupied by the French, against whom an uprising broke out in 1916 led by Kaotsen Mohammed. At the end of the 20th century, the city became the center of resistance of the Tuareg, who are increasingly asserting themselves in the Sahel countries as a political force.

DAY 7. Return to Tahua via Abalak.

8 DAY. Transfer to Niamey, transfer to the airport, flight to the homeland.
